In 1990, the bulk of venison sold in BC was imported from New Zealand. Today, approximately 80% of the market is being served by BC fallow deer producers.
There has been an increase in the number of restaurants serving venison and the number of stores selling it.
Fallow Deer Venison is a fine-textured, mildly flavoured meat. Ounce for ounce it las fewer calories than beef, buffalo (bison), pork or skinless chicken! It is naturally low in cholesterol, and high in Omega 3 & 6 fatty acids - healthy for your heart - good for your family!
Changes in lifestyles toward healthier living and eating, specifically concerning red meat, means that consumers are demanding more game farmed venison than ever before. Game farmed venison has been proven to have a lower fat and cholesterol content than most red meats. The demand for venison meat has increased greatly in the last few years and continues to grow rapidly.
Fallow venison offers a much milder flavoured meat than native venison. This is mostly due to the fact that they are farm raised, grain fed and don't endure the same stress as deer in the wild. Fallow venison is a very dense meat which is much more filling than beef or pork. If you would normally be happy with an 8 oz beef steak, you'd be well satisfied with a 6 oz. venison steak.
Venison is the healthiest red meat on the market. It is extremely high in protein, low in fat and low in cholesterol which is perfect for those on calorie or cholesterol reduced diets. Whether you were raised on venison or are experiencing it for the first time, we're sure you'll love our venison!
